Little Elm traces back to 1844, when the community was founded along what’s now Lewisville Lake; it didn’t officially incorporate until 1966, and its first census in 1970 counted just 363 residents.
Since then, Little Elm has become one of the fastest-growing municipalities in Texas by percentage, from under 4,000 residents in 2000 to more than 58,000 today, with a build-out population expected to approach 90,000.
Much of that growth centers on the lake itself: Little Elm Beach, part of Little Elm Park along the Lewisville Lake shoreline, is a popular spot for swimming, fishing, and watching the sunset, and the Eldorado Parkway/FM 720 bridge across the lake connects Little Elm to Frisco and Prosper on the opposite shore.
